For Hunger – Nourish Pierce County

History

For more than forty years Nourish (formerly FISH Food Banks) has provided a lifeline of support to its clients. In the early 1970s, a group of Pierce County churches came together to form what would evolve into seven brick-and-mortar locations, as well as nineteen additional sites served by 2 ground-breaking mobile units, two of only a few of its kind in the country. Nourish reaches more people successfully due to its size, the largest network of food banks in Pierce County.

For Youth Development – Greentrike, through the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation

Greentrike is a nonprofit that advocates for and models equitable access to playful experiences for children, youth, and families — because play is essential for learning, joy, and a thriving community.

What is Greentrike?

To provide nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect.

The work of the Children’s Museum of Tacoma has evolved and grown over the last decade. We are an education and advocacy organization that has become more than a museum. We changed our name in the fall of 2019 to reflect this organizational growth, and are now called Greentrike, the nonprofit organization that supports existing programming and advocacy for children and youth in Pierce County, Washington.

Greentrike continues to honor children and youth and champion play with the same staff, mission, and board. Donations to Greentrike support outreach programming, multiple preschool locations, virtual programming, and two museums.

Mentor One80

Mentor One80 is a trauma-informed, faith-based, non-judgmental, and culturally responsive mentorship program in Pierce County, working alongside the Juvenile Courts (Detention, Probation, Diversion, DCYF), local Alternative Schools, and Group Homes to help keep youth out of the system.

Mentor One80's goal is to help youth experience hope and take small steps toward positive change. They do this through ongoing relationship-building activities, faith-based conversations, and life skills training. The Mentor One80 program connects youth 1-1 with a trained adult that meets on a weekly basis to mentor the student through life challenges. The goal is to keep them out of the justice system.

Lolo Light Foundation

Those who have been sexually abused often lose touch with the joy of life and need help finding their light again. Lolo Light Foundation creates opportunities to be a kid again and have fun through spirit-led holistic modalities, art, play, and nature immersion. Joy is the key to unlocking deep healing of trauma to ultimately guide themselves to a better future. Lolo Light supports children in self-healing practices to gain freedom from the wounds of their past.
