Colbert, WA - Deadly Two-Car Accident on US Hwy 2

Colbert, WA (July 7, 2025)A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on Sunday afternoon, July 6, on U.S. Highway 2, claiming one life just north of Spokane.

The crash took place around 4:00 p.m., approximately six miles north of the city, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP). Authorities say a vehicle traveling eastbound on Colbert Road reportedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the path of a southbound vehicle on US-2, resulting in a deadly impact. One person was killed in the crash. Their identity has not yet been released.

Following the incident, the northbound lanes near milepost 299 were fully closed, while traffic heading south experienced partial blockages. All lanes have since reopened.

Investigators have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role. However, WSP has identified the primary cause of the crash as failure to obey a traffic control sign.

We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Washington Car Accidents

Colbert, WA - Deadly Two-Car Accident on US Hwy 2Every year, fatal car crashes shatter lives across Washington. In 2023 alone, over 800 people lost their lives in traffic collisions on Washington roadways—a stark reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike. Nationally, more than 40,000 lives are lost annually in motor vehicle accidents, making traffic fatalities a leading cause of preventable death in the United States.

Many of these deadly incidents stem from the same dangerous behaviors: excessive speed, distracted driving, impaired driving, and driver fatigue. Speed-related crashes alone have taken thousands of lives in a single year nationwide, and in Washington, they remain one of the most common contributors to fatal accidents. When drivers choose to ignore traffic laws or act carelessly behind the wheel, the consequences can be irreversible.

Major highways such as I-5, I-90, and State Route 2 often see some of the most serious collisions, but fatal crashes can happen anywhere, from rural roads to neighborhood intersections. What unites these tragedies is the overwhelming impact they leave on the loved ones left behind.

For families coping with the sudden loss of a parent, spouse, child, or sibling, the grief is often compounded by financial hardship.
