Washington Car Crashes

Tacoma, WA - I-5 Scene of Injury Accident near Pacific AveCar accidents have become an increasingly serious problem across the United States, particularly in the last decade. Over 5 million car wrecks occur annually nationwide, resulting in millions of injuries and tens of thousands of fatalities. In Washington State, hundreds of thousands of traffic accidents are reported each year, with many stemming from driver negligence or error.

Recent data highlights the growing concern: in 2023 alone, Washington saw over 160,000 crashes, with nearly 60,000 people injured and over 600 fatalities. A significant portion of these incidents could have been prevented, and sadly, most are the direct result of negligent driving behavior.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 4 out of 5 car accidents in the U.S. are caused by driver negligence. Some of the most common forms of negligent driving include:

  • Fatigue
  • Speeding
  • Intoxication
  • Distraction

Driver distraction continues to be a leading cause of accidents, with more and more people becoming distracted by smartphones or other technologies while on the road. Additionally, impaired and fatigued driving remains a substantial threat to public safety. In Washington State, impaired driving alone accounted for nearly 300 fatalities in 2023, with speeding contributing to several hundred additional deaths.
