The collision occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near milepost 1 in Vancouver. Authorities say the man was attempting to cross the highway from the right shoulder toward the median when he entered the path of traffic in the left lane. He was then struck by three eastbound vehicles.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

No one else was injured in the incident, and WSP investigators have stated that impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash. An investigation remains ongoing.

We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Washington Bicycle Accidents

Vancouver, WA - Bicyclist Killed in Crash on SR-14Experiencing the sudden loss of a loved one in a bicycle accident is a tragedy no family should have to endure. Across Washington State, fatal bicycle crashes continue to occur far too often—particularly in areas where roads are shared by fast-moving vehicles and vulnerable cyclists. The emotional devastation, combined with the financial burden, can leave families reeling and unsure of where to turn.

Nationwide, more than 1,000 bicyclists lose their lives in traffic collisions each year, with tens of thousands more injured, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Many of these incidents are entirely preventable, with nearly 94% of crashes linked to driver error or negligence.

In Washington, the dangers facing bicyclists are alarmingly clear. Whether due to speeding, distracted driving, or failure to yield, motorists often fail to watch for cyclists—especially at night or in low-visibility conditions. Some of the most common causes of fatal bike accidents include:

  • Drivers making unsafe turns or lane changes
  • Speeding through intersections or crosswalks
  • Texting or using devices while driving
  • Impaired driving due to drugs or alcohol
  • Inadequate bike lanes or poorly lit roads

When a life is lost in a bicycle accident caused by a reckless or careless driver, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims can provide critical financial relief for funeral expenses, lost future income, and the emotional suffering caused by such a heartbreaking loss.
