Suncrest, WA - Man Killed in Three-Car Accident on SR-291

Suncrest, WA (June 10, 2025) – A 75-year-old man lost his life in a tragic three-vehicle collision Monday afternoon, June 9, on State Route 291, roughly two miles south of Suncrest, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. when the northbound driver was involved in a head-on collision. The force of the impact pushed the southbound car into the path of a commercial truck traveling in the opposite direction, resulting in a secondary collision.

WSP confirmed that a 75-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision led to a full closure of SR 291 for approximately three hours, with all lanes reopening by 7:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, it is not yet clear whether impairment played a role.

We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Washington Car Accidents

Suncrest, WA - Man Killed in Three-Car Accident on SR-291Fatal motor vehicle accidents remain one of the most heartbreaking—and preventable—public safety issues in the United States. Each year, more than 40,000 lives are lost nationwide due to traffic collisions, many of which are caused by negligent behaviors such as distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, or fatigue. In fact, national data shows that driver error is responsible for over 90% of all crashes.

Washington State is no exception to this trend. In 2023 alone, the state recorded more than 800 lives lost in vehicle-related incidents—a troubling 10% increase from the previous year. Many of these fatalities were the result of impaired or inattentive driving, and rural stretches like State Route 291 near Suncrest have become the site of particularly tragic collisions.

One recent crash just south of Suncrest underscores the devastating impact of these incidents. When a vehicle veered over the centerline and triggered a multi-vehicle chain reaction, a 75-year-old man lost his life. While the other drivers were uninjured, the emotional and financial ripple effects of such a tragedy can leave families shattered.
