Ephrata, WA - Two Hurt in DUI Crash on Hwy 28

Ephrata, WA (August 4, 2025) — An early morning crash in Grant County left two individuals injured in what authorities believe was a DUI-related incident.

The Washington State Patrol reported that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Highway 28 when it veered off the roadway and came to rest in a ditch. The crash occurred on August 4, around 3:30 a.m., approximately one mile south of Ephrata.

Both occupants of the vehicle were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The driver is now facing charges of vehicular assault and driving under the influence. Investigators say impairment and possibly falling asleep at the wheel contributed to the wreck. The incident remains under investigation.

We wish those hurt a swift recovery.

Washington Traffic Accidents

Roads throughout Washington—particularly in high-traffic areas like Tacoma—have seen a troubling rise in serious accidents in recent years. In 2022, the state reported more than 100,000 motor vehicle crashes, resulting in over 30,000 injuries and more than 700 lives lost. A significant number of these collisions share a common root cause: driver negligence.

Even with ongoing safety initiatives and tougher enforcement, reckless behavior behind the wheel continues to put lives at risk. Among the most common forms of negligent driving are:

  • Impaired Driving – Alcohol and drugs can cloud judgment, slow reflexes, and lead to devastating outcomes.
  • Distracted Driving – Sending a quick text, checking a map, or even eating can take a driver’s attention off the road long enough to cause a serious crash.
  • Speeding – Driving too fast for road or weather conditions remains a major factor in severe and fatal wrecks.
  • Driver Fatigue – Exhausted drivers are often just as dangerous as intoxicated ones, but many still get behind the wheel when they shouldn’t.

These preventable mistakes often lead to long-term consequences for innocent victims—ranging from physical injuries like fractures and brain trauma to emotional distress and crushing medical bills.
