Auto accidents have become a significant issue in the US, particularly in recent years. Distracted driving has reached epidemic proportions, causing hundreds of thousands of collisions per year. Other common forms of negligent driving plaguing the roadways in the US include intoxication, speeding, and fatigue. Drivers who engage in these dangerous and negligent behaviors often cause crashes that end in injuries or even fatalities.
Yearly, the US sees over 6 million car accidents. The NHTSA reports that over 90% of car accidents are caused by driver negligence, so this means that more than 5 million car crashes happen per year caused by driver negligence in the US. Sadly, around 3 million people are hurt in these accidents while over 40,000 end up losing their lives. When we consider that the majority of these injuries and deaths are preventable, we begin to sense the serious magnitude of the problem of negligent driving in the US.
