Benton City, WA - Antonio D. Aguirre Killed in Collision on Hwy 224

Benton City, WA (March 2, 2025) - A man identified as Antonio D. Aguirre, age 35, of Sunnyside, lost his life in a fatal traffic accident that happened near Benton City. Reports from local sources show the wreck occurred on Saturday evening on Highway 224.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., on March 1, Matthew D. Mason, 32, was headed west on the highway when his GMC Sierra pickup crossed the center line and struck Aguirre’s eastbound Acura TSX sedan. Police say Aguirre was operating his vehicle near East Sandstone Lane when the collision occurred. He lost his life before he was able to be transported to a nearby hospital. According to police reports, Mason was then arrested. Police in Benton City continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
