Cashmere, WA - Sylvia Harrison Killed in SUV Crash on SR-97A

Cashmere, WA (May 13, 2025) - A tragic head-on collision along State Route 97A on May 13 left one woman dead and sent two others to the hospital, according to Washington State Patrol.

The crash occurred around 1:37 p.m. when a northbound SUV, driven by 77-year-old Sharon Wilson of Cashmere, reportedly crossed the center line near milepost 208 and collided with a southbound SUV driven by 68-year-old Stephen Harrison of Sammamish.

Stephen’s wife, 70-year-old Sylvia Harrison, was a passenger in the vehicle and died at the scene from her injuries. Both Wilson and Stephen Harrison sustained injuries and were transported to Central Washington Hospital for treatment.

Troopers confirmed that all individuals involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. At this point, it is unclear whether impairment was a factor. The crash shut down SR 97A for nearly four hours as investigators worked the scene and cleared debris. The investigation remains ongoing.

We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with those involved.

Washington Traffic Collisions

Cashmere, WA - Sylvia Harrison Killed in SUV Crash on SR-97ALosing a loved one in a car accident is an unimaginable tragedy—one that no family should have to endure. Sadly, fatal traffic collisions remain all too common, with more than 40,000 people losing their lives on U.S. roadways each year. In Washington State alone, hundreds of families are left grieving annually after deadly crashes, many of which are entirely preventable.

The vast majority of fatal crashes can be traced back to human error. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), driver negligence plays a role in over 90% of collisions. Common causes include speeding, impaired driving, distracted behavior, and falling asleep at the wheel. Speeding alone is responsible for over 11,000 deaths nationwide each year.

These tragic losses often leave families grappling with not only emotional devastation but also sudden financial burdens. Funeral costs, lost income, and the loss of companionship can add unimaginable pressure during an already painful time.
