Edmonds, WA - Two Killed in Police Pursuit, Car Submerges in Edmonds Ferry Terminal

Edmonds, WA (June 18, 2025) – A tragic incident at the Edmonds Ferry Terminal Tuesday night has left two people dead and three others seriously injured after a vehicle plunged into the water and became fully submerged.

The situation began around 11 p.m. when a Washington State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle, briefly initiating a pursuit that was soon called off. Shortly after, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office took over the pursuit of the same vehicle.

By 11:30 p.m., authorities responded to an emergency call reporting that a Mini Cooper had ended up underwater at the ferry terminal dock.

Investigators confirmed that five individuals were inside the vehicle at the time. Two people died in the crash, while three others were rushed to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.

According to South County Fire, it's still unclear how the individuals were extracted from the submerged vehicle. It also remains unknown whether the driver is among the deceased or injured.

The Edmonds-Kingston ferry route was temporarily disrupted but has since resumed normal operations. Officials say the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Washington Car Accidents

Edmonds, WA - Two Killed in Police Pursuit, Car Submerges in Edmonds Ferry TerminalMotor vehicle fatalities remain a devastating and persistent issue across the United States, and Washington State is no exception. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 40,000 people lost their lives in traffic collisions nationwide in 2022. A significant portion of these deaths were entirely preventable, with reckless behaviors like drunk driving, speeding, distracted driving, and failure to use seatbelts playing a major role. Shockingly, nearly one in three fatal crashes involves an impaired driver.

Washington has experienced a troubling increase in roadway fatalities. In 2023, more than 800 people were killed in traffic-related incidents across the state—a 10% increase over the previous year. High-risk corridors, such as I-5, SR 512, and SR 167 near Tacoma, have become hotspots for deadly collisions. With human error cited in over 94% of all crashes, the risk of fatal accidents remains alarmingly high for motorists, passengers, and pedestrians alike.

For families who lose a loved one in a car crash, the impact is devastating. Beyond the grief, they may face sudden financial burdens, funeral costs, and the emotional toll of losing someone too soon, especially when the tragedy stems from another driver’s negligence.
