Seattle, WA (June 17, 2025) – A two-car crash late Friday night in South Seattle sent one driver to the hospital and ended with the arrest of another who fled the scene on foot, according to reports from KING 5.
The collision occurred around 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Dakota Street. The impact caused significant damage, knocking over a tree, a pedestrian crossing sign, and a fire hydrant, while also temporarily blocking the nearby light rail tracks.
After the crash, one of the drivers attempted to escape the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by authorities. Police later confirmed that the individual had multiple outstanding warrants and was taken into custody.
The second driver remained at the scene and was transported by emergency responders to a local hospital. Their injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.
Seattle Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and any potential contributing factors.
We hope the wounded individuals recover rapidly.
Motor vehicle crashes continue to pose a significant threat to public safety across the United States. In 2022, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported over 40,000 fatalities from traffic accidents, many of which were preventable. Dangerous behaviors such as impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and neglecting to wear seatbelts remain the leading causes of these tragedies. Notably, impaired drivers are involved in nearly one-third of all fatal crashes nationwide.
Seattle has experienced its share of this troubling trend. In 2023, the city and surrounding areas saw a rise in serious traffic accidents and fatalities, particularly along major routes like I-5, Aurora Avenue, and Highway 99. With human error accounting for more than 94% of collisions, the risk of injury or loss of life remains alarmingly high for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike.
If you or someone you love has been injured in a Seattle car accident, understanding the circumstances that led to the crash is crucial. When negligence on the part of another driver causes harm, victims may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost income, emotional suffering, and more. Yet dealing with insurance companies can be challenging, especially when they try to minimize your claim or deny responsibility.
