Mason County, WA (June 20, 2025) – On June 17, a major collision on State Route 3 resulted in critical injuries for one driver, who was flown to a Seattle trauma center for emergency care, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The crash occurred around 8:10 a.m. near the intersection of East Pickering Road and SR 3, situated between Shelton and Allyn. Authorities say a 28-year-old Shelton man was attempting to turn south onto SR 3 from East Pickering Road when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a northbound car.
The second vehicle, driven by a 35-year-old Shelton resident, collided with the turning vehicle with enough force to cause serious damage. The 28-year-old sustained critical injuries as a result of the impact and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for advanced trauma care. The other driver was not reported to be injured.
Troopers remained on the scene for several hours to investigate the incident and manage traffic in the area. At this time, the collision remains under active investigation, and no citations or charges have been issued.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver as he begins the road to recovery.
Every year, thousands of Washington residents find their lives suddenly disrupted by serious car accidents. From busy highways like I-5 and I-90 to neighborhood streets in cities like Tacoma, Seattle, and Spokane, collisions remain a constant threat—and the consequences can be devastating.
In 2023, Washington State saw nearly 800 fatal crashes, reflecting a troubling trend that continues to affect families across the region. Nationwide, more than 6 million accidents were reported last year, leading to over 3 million injuries and untold emotional and financial burdens. These numbers highlight a hard truth: for far too many people, a single moment on the road can change everything.
While some accidents are due to unforeseen conditions, most are linked to preventable human behavior. Speeding, distracted driving, driving under the influence, and driver fatigue are among the top causes of serious and fatal crashes. Speeding alone contributes to over 11,000 deaths each year across the U.S., while distractions like texting behind the wheel continue to endanger lives every day.
