Mattawa, WA (May 27, 2025). – On May 27, a fatal vehicle crash closed a portion of Highway 243 approximately 11 miles south of Mattawa, prompting an active investigation and traffic detours in the area.

The Washington State Patrol confirmed that one person was killed in the crash, which occurred early on May 27. As troopers worked to determine the cause, traffic was rerouted through Road L southwest and Road O southwest.
