Omak, WA (July 1, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision near Omak on Saturday afternoon, June 28, sent three people, including a young child, to the hospital with injuries.
The crash occurred around 4:55 p.m. on State Route 97, according to the Washington State Patrol. Authorities say 40-year-old Christopher Twedell of Tonasket was driving an SUV when he allegedly ran a stoplight and collided with another SUV.
The second vehicle, driven by 43-year-old Garnet Summers, was turning left onto the highway from Dayton Lane at the time of the impact. Summers and her four-year-old passenger were both injured and transported, along with Twedell, to Mid Valley Hospital for treatment.
Investigators report that drugs and alcohol contributed to the crash, and charges against Twedell are pending. The collision caused a lengthy road closure as crews worked to clear the scene.
We hope for the full and rapid recovery of those with injuries.
Car accidents continue to disrupt lives throughout Washington State, from the high-speed lanes of I-5 and I-90 to the neighborhood roads of Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, and beyond. Each year, thousands of Washingtonians are seriously hurt in crashes that leave lasting physical, emotional, and financial damage.
In 2023 alone, the state recorded nearly 800 fatal collisions, underscoring the ongoing dangers drivers and passengers face every day. On a national scale, millions of people are injured in traffic accidents annually, a sobering reminder that it only takes a moment for a routine drive to turn into a life-altering event.
Many of these accidents are entirely preventable. Risky behaviors like texting while driving, speeding, impaired driving, and driving while overly tired are among the leading causes of serious crashes. Distracted driving, in particular, continues to rise, putting everyone on the road at greater risk. When a driver’s poor decisions lead to injury, victims deserve accountability.
