Throughout the nation, auto accidents are a growing problem. Millions of lives are affected yearly by these accidents that happen mostly due to driver negligence. Tens of thousands of lives are lost per year in crashes caused by distraction, speeding, and intoxication. In Washington, auto collisions remain a serious problem, with tens of thousands of people suffering injuries in accidents per year.
Driver negligence is overwhelmingly the leading cause of these accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 90% of car crashes in the U.S. result from driver negligence. Common negligent behaviors include:
In Washington, these behaviors contribute significantly to the approximately 100,000 car accidents reported annually. On average, more than 500 fatalities and thousands of injuries occur each year in the state due to collisions. These statistics underscore the importance of addressing negligent driving behaviors to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes.
For those involved in accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming and life-changing. Victims may find themselves hospitalized, unable to work, and facing mounting medical bills, vehicle repair costs, and lost wages.
