Car crashes have become a serious problem in the US, especially in the past decade. On average, the United States sees over 6 million traffic collisions annually that injure around 3 million people. Sadly, more than 40,000 people lose their lives in auto collisions throughout the US every year. In Washington, tens of thousands of people are hurt in yearly car wrecks, and hundreds more end up losing their lives.
Alarmingly, the NHTSA reports that 9 out of 10 reported traffic accidents are caused by negligent driving in the US. Driver distraction is currently the most common type of negligence seen on the roadways in America, causing hundreds of thousands of yearly accidents. Some other common forms of negligent driving include intoxication, speeding, and fatigue.
Every year, individuals in the US suffer injuries and even lose their lives due to the careless and reckless actions of drivers who allow themselves to become distracted, fatigued, intoxicated, or who travel at unsafe speeds. For example, over 3,000 people are killed annually due to car accidents caused by driver distraction. Additionally, over 30% of the national accident fatality rate is caused by intoxicated driving.
