Thurston Co., WA - Two Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-5

Thurston Co., WA (March 18, 2025) - Two women who lost their lives in a wrong-way collision have been identified, according to information provided by the Washington State Patrol and the Thurston County Coroner’s Office.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, Turnwater resident Valerie Thomspon, 38, and 28-year-old Thunder OBrien, also known as Amelia Garner, also of Turnwater, were headed north on Interstate 5 near the Scatter Creek rest area in southern Thurston County. Meanwhile, a male driver, who remains unidentified, was headed south in the northbound lanes of the interstate when he crashed into them. A third northbound vehicle then collided with the car occupied by the two women. Both women lost their lives due to multiple blunt-force injuries, according to information from the Coroner’s Office. Police in Thurston continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
