Kitsap County, WA (March 9, 2025) - State Route 3 was completely blocked on Thursday, March 6, after a three-car crash happened near the Hood Canal Bridge. Police informed that the incident occurred when a Mazda and a Toyota were headed south on SR-3 just south of SR-4, when a Hyundai was traveling north in the same area. The Mazda slowed for a left-hand turn when the Toyota swerved into the oncoming lane, rear-ending the Mazda before colliding head-on with the Hyundai in the northbound lane. The Hyundai and Toyota came to rest in the northbound lane while the Mazda stopped in a nearby driveway.
The Toyota’s driver, a man from Yuma, AZ, age 36, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He was one of four injured victims. Two people inside the Hyundai sustained injuries in the accident. The Mazda’s driver also sustained injuries. Police in Kitsap County continue to investigate the details of the accident.
We hope for the full and rapid recovery of the injured victims.
Auto accidents in the United States are a leading cause of injuries and fatalities. Over 40,000 deaths were reported in 2022, according to information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Common contributors to these collisions include impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and failing to use seatbelts. The majority of these accidents involve high-risk behaviors, with impaired driving responsible for almost 30% of yearly deaths.
In 2023, the state of Washington saw over 800 traffic fatalities, marking a 10% increase from 2022. These deaths mostly happened due to negligent driving, which causes over 94% of reported car crashes in the United States. In one recent year, approxim
ately 13,000 Americans lost their lives due to intoxicated driving. On average, drunk driving takes a life approximately once every 39 minutes. Car wrecks caused by negligent drivers almost always end in injuries and fatalities, victimizing millions of Americans every year.
