Spokane County, WA (June 22, 2025) — A stretch of US Highway 395 has reopened following a serious two-vehicle collision that shut down traffic for several hours on Sunday, June 22.
The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. near North Spotted Road, approximately three miles north of Deer Park. According to the Washington State Patrol, emergency crews responded swiftly to the scene, where at least one individual was reported injured.
After an extended closure to allow for cleanup and investigation, the highway was fully reopened to traffic by 3:15 p.m. Authorities have not yet released additional details about the condition of those involved.
We hope for the full and rapid recovery of the injured victims.
Car accidents remain a serious issue in Washington State, with injury crashes continuing at a steady pace year after year. In 2023 alone, the Washington Traffic Safety Commission reported more than 75,000 collisions across the state. A large portion of these incidents occurred along busy highways and commuter routes—especially during rush hours—leaving thousands injured and facing unexpected hardship.
Understanding the root causes of these accidents is essential for prevention and accountability. Two major contributors to injury-related crashes in Washington are driver distraction and fatigue:
Distracted Driving:
Distraction behind the wheel is one of the most common causes of injury crashes in the state. Drivers looking at their phones, eating, using navigation systems, or even talking to passengers can lose focus in a split second—enough time to cause a serious accident. On fast-moving routes like SR 16 and I-5, where traffic conditions can shift rapidly, distraction can have devastating consequences.
Driver Fatigue:
Another key factor is drowsy driving. Long stretches of highway and late-night travel can leave drivers dangerously fatigued. Sleep-deprived motorists may drift from their lanes, react slowly, or completely doze off at the wheel. Unfortunately, these situations often result in serious or even life-threatening injuries for all involved.
