Cle Elum, WA - DOT Worker Hurt in Crash with Semi on I-90

Cle Elum, WA (April 25, 2025) - A worker with the Washington State Department of Transportation was hurt in a traffic accident involving a semi-truck on Tuesday morning, April 22.

Information provided by the Washington State Patrol shows it occurred just after 10:00 a.m. on Interstate 90, approximately 11 miles west of Cle Elum. According to reports, a semi-truck, operated by a 60-year-old from Moses Lake, rear-ended a DOT attenuator truck parked on the freeway. Traffic was delayed in the eastbound lanes for several hours while responders worked at the scene. At this time, the extent of the worker’s injuries has not been reported. Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.

We hope for the full and fast recovery of the injured victim.

Washington Traffic Accidents

Cle Elum, WA - DOT Worker Hurt in Crash with Semi on I-90Washington state sees thousands of traffic accidents each year, with many resulting in severe injuries or even fatalities. In 2022 alone, the Washington State Department of Transportation recorded over 100,000 crashes statewide, highlighting the constant risk on our roads.

Several factors contribute to accidents on Washington's highways:

  • Distracted Driving: Whether it’s texting, talking on the phone, or other distractions, these behaviors are a significant cause of accidents, especially on high-speed interstates.
  • Weather Conditions: Rain, fog, and slippery roads are all common in the Tacoma area, which can reduce visibility and increase the risk of crashes.
  • Unsafe Lane Changes: Merging and lane-changing without caution, especially during rush hours, can lead to serious collisions on busy highways.
  • Fatigue: Long, uninterrupted drives can impair a driver’s reaction time, making accidents more likely.

In addition to regular passenger vehicle accidents, semi-truck accidents are a significant concern on Washington’s roads. Due to the large size and weight of these commercial vehicles, accidents involving semi-trucks often result in more severe injuries and significant property damage. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, semi-truck accidents are more likely to involve serious or fatal injuries, especially when they occur on highways or interstates, where high speeds and heavy traffic are common.
