Fall City, WA (June 19, 2025) — A fatal incident on westbound I-90 near Fall City Thursday afternoon left one pedestrian dead and led to a dramatic arrest involving an attempted carjacking, authorities say.
The Washington State Patrol responded to the scene around 12:30 p.m. near milepost 23, just west of the State Route 18 interchange. When troopers arrived, they found the pedestrian had already succumbed to their injuries.
The vehicle involved—a black Toyota Sequoia—did not remain at the scene. Instead, it continued westbound until becoming disabled near the Preston Exit. According to investigators, the driver then attempted to carjack a white pickup truck. When that failed, the suspect reportedly climbed into the truck’s bed.
While the events following the crash are clearer, investigators have not yet released information explaining why the pedestrian was on the highway or how they were struck, especially since the Sequoia was reportedly well off the road when the collision occurred.
The westbound lanes of I-90 were closed for several hours during the investigation and reopened by 4 p.m.
Authorities say the investigation remains active as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident and subsequent arrest.
We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
