Stevens Co., WA (June 17, 2025) — A tragic collision on Sunday afternoon, June 15, in Stevens County claimed the lives of two women in what authorities believe was a DUI-related crash.
The Washington State Patrol reports that 43-year-old Amber Calicoat from Clayton was traveling northbound on Highway 395 near Loon Lake at approximately 4 p.m. When attempting to overtake a vehicle on the shoulder, Calicoat sideswiped that vehicle, causing both to veer into oncoming southbound traffic.
Calicoat’s vehicle then collided head-on with a southbound car driven by 21-year-old Abigail Hill. The vehicle originally sideswiped went off the roadway and struck a tree. Two adults in that car were transported to a nearby hospital, while a two-year-old child inside remained unharmed.
Both Calicoat and Hill were pronounced dead at the scene. The highway was shut down in both directions for several hours as emergency crews responded.
Investigators are continuing their inquiry. Charges related to the driver of the northbound vehicle are pending, though specifics have not been disclosed.
Our sincere condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim. We also hope for the rapid and complete recovery of those with injuries.
