Tacoma, WA - Injuries Caused by Accident on 54th Ave

Tacoma, WA (June 5, 2025) — Emergency crews responded to a collision on southbound Interstate 5 Thursday evening that resulted in injuries and significant traffic delays, according to reports from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The crash occurred around 6:16 p.m. near milepost 136.9, close to 54th Avenue East in the Tacoma area. Initial reports indicate that multiple vehicles were involved and that at least one person sustained injuries. The severity of those injuries has not yet been confirmed.

As a result of the crash, the on-ramp to southbound I-5 is partially blocked, causing backups and slowdowns throughout the area during the evening commute. Traffic crews remained on scene for several hours to assess damage, clear debris, and assist the injured.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution when driving through the area and to seek alternative routes where possible. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by state authorities.
