Yelm, WA (July 8, 2025) - A 41-year-old man from Tacoma tragically lost his life Sunday evening after losing control of his vehicle while attempting to evade police in Yelm, according to the Washington State Patrol. The deceased has been identified as Jeremy L. Stahl.
The incident occurred on State Route 507 near 312th Street South, roughly five miles north of Yelm. Stahl was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he crossed into the southbound lanes and collided with a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 carrying two passengers—a man and a woman from Salem, Oregon—who sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.
Following the initial impact, Stahl’s Jeep spun and was subsequently struck by the pursuing Yelm police vehicle. Both the Jeep and police cruiser came to a stop, blocking traffic in both directions, while the Dodge Ram pulled over to the right shoulder on the southbound side. The crash led to a seven-hour closure of the roadway.
According to officials, the officer involved in the collision attempted to provide emergency aid to Stahl but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was also taken to a hospital with injuries but is expected to recover fully.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim. We also wish those hurt a rapid recovery.
