Auto accidents in the United States are a leading cause of injuries and fatalities. Over 40,000 deaths were reported in 2022, according to information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Common contributors to these collisions include impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and failing to use seatbelts. The majority of these accidents involve high-risk behaviors, with impaired driving responsible for almost 30% of yearly deaths.
In 2023, the state of Washington saw over 800 traffic fatalities, marking a 10% increase from 2022. These deaths mostly happened due to negligent driving, which causes over 94% of reported car crashes in the United States. In one recent year, approximately 13,000 Americans lost their lives due to intoxicated driving. On average, drunk driving takes a life approximately once every 39 minutes. Car wrecks caused by negligent drivers almost always end in injuries and fatalities, victimizing millions of Americans every year.
